Danish Krone: National Currency in Denmark |
National currency in Denmark is Danish Krone. One Danish krone is divided into 100 øre. Issuing of the circulating currency started in 1997 and these are 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1 000 kroner (Fig.1). Each note has a red-coloured seven-digit serial number, as well as a blue-coloured four-digit number in front and after which there is a letter, two figures in the middle stand for the year of the issue. Since August 2009 Danish National Bank started issuing banknotes of a new series with pictures of Danish bridges and archeological finds discovered in the country. New banknotes to the value of 50 kroner are already circulating along with the notes issued in 1997; 100 and 200 krone notes were issued in May and October 2010; as for 500 and 1 000 krone notes, they were issued in February and May 2011. (Fig.2). Circulating coins are 50 øre; 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 kroner. Figure 1. Danish banknotes issued in 1997. From Danish National Bank official site. Figure 2.
