NEW TALENT GRAND PIX at the 'CPH:PIX Award Show'

The Romanian film 'Katalin Varga' won CPH:PIX's main award NEW TALENT GRAND PIX at the 'CPH:PIX Award Show ' at Copenhagen's 'Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek'. The director of the film, british Peter Strickland, was present at the show, where he received the CPH:PIX statuette and a 50,000 Euro cash prize.

'Katalin Varga', which was one of the great surprises at this year's Berlin Film Festival, is an almost archaic story of the title character Katalin (Hilda Peter), who has kept a painful secret for 11 years. Her son is not her husband's child, but the result of a rape. When the truth comes out, Katalin has no other choice but to leave the village, and with her son in tow she sets off with a borrowed horse carriage to take her revenge on the man who now has destroyed her life twice…

This year's competition jury, who handed out the first NEW TALENT GRAND PIX award, consists of Irish writer-director Aisling Walsh (Song For A Raggy Boy), Danish actress Iben Hjejle (Defiance) and British filmmaker Thomas Clay (Soi Cowboy). The jury chose Strickland as the winner of the NEW TALENT GRAND PIX competition because of 'the individuality of his approach, his visual sense, and the joined confident and consistent performances of his cast'.

The Canadian film 'It’s Not Me, I Swear' - Philippe Falerdeau's bitter sweet portrait of ten-year-old Léon - won the danish newspaper Politiken's 'Audience Award'. The film will receive support for the distribution and launch in Denmark worth 125,000 DKK. 20 films were nominated for the award.
