Danish History The Danish history of 1660-1814 is signified by the two events, important for its  further development. In 1660 Denmark has finally  lost the Scone lands after the Swedish war. Meanwhile Bornholm managed to resist and was again in the Danish power. The establishment of the absolute monarchy in 1661 became a great loss.

By the end of that period Denmark was involved into the war against Napoleon, that resulted into bankrupcy of the country and therefore giving up the posession of Norway to Sweden.

In the beginning of the XVIII century the country entered the war against Sweden fighting for supremacy over Scania (Dan. Skåne) and Northern Germany. In addition to that the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein, calling themselves Gottorfs, caused many problems to Denmark, however they peacefully restored their souverenity in 1773. Mental illness of Christian VII was the reason why governing was being done by various people changing each other at the trone. That was until Christian's son, crown prince Frederik became the unofficial head of state for 24 years up to his father's death.
