Yet a decade ago a percentage correlation of Danish National Church members was a little bit more. Thus, according to the statistics, given by different researchers, about 4,500,000 people were members of Danish National Church and it was 90% of the country population. One can suggest that this insignificant fall of population was caused by population increase and beforehand by emigrants flow. According to the data of 1998 the number of Muslims in Denmark was approximately 90 000 people, i.e. about 1% of the country population (the statistics of 1998 accounted 5,129,000 people). However this figure has increased almost twice over the last decade. So, “Interfax-Religia” data, given in 2005 with the refer to “Tehran Times”, says that only in 2005 5000 people exercised Islam. As a rule most of them were young people and also women married to Muslims. Consequently, according to the given data, nowadays about 3,5% of the country population exercise Islam. In compliance with the official data of 1998 about 8% of the population attribute themselves to atheists. Probably now this figure hasn`t changed and if it has increased, it`s not so significant change. About 6 % of the population are Catholics, Jews, Sikhs, Buddhists and also representatives of new religious movements such as Jehovah`s Witnesses, Scientology Church, Transcendental Meditation, Unification Church, ISKCON and many others. Danish National Church or Evangelical Lutheran Church of Denmark (“Den Danske Folkekirke or Folkekirken” in Danish) is a state church and the largest Christian church in Denmark. As per January 1 2008 4,494,589 people from 5,475,791 inhabitants were members of Danish National Church that is about 82, 1% of the population of Denmark. However it`s not a sign of high religiousness of the Danes. Many Danes don`t want to identify themselves with Christianity in spite of their actual belonging to the Church.
