The Aarhus Festival, which will take place in Aarhus from 28 August to the 6 September 2009, is among the largest cultural events in Scandinavia and showcases both local, national and international artists. The Aarhus Festival is highly esteemed and recognized both in Denmark and abroad.

The Aarhus Festival is a thematic event and the theme of the year determines the artistic programme. The programme encompasses various forms of art such as dance, theatre, exhibitions, opera, sports, children's entertainment and a varied offering of music.

For 10 days every year in August - September the streets and alleys, clubs, stages, galleries and museums of Aarhus are teeming with entertainment events.

The 2009 Aarhus Festival theme is THE FUTURE IS NEAR!. This theme is intended as an optimistic contrast to the classical doomsday pessimist waving his placard proclaiming that THE END IS NEAR!
