Danish exhibition "Portraits of Artists and Friends"

July 3, 2010 National Center of Photography ROSPHOTO "and Saint-Petersburg Society" AZ ", opened an exhibition of Danish photographer Lars Schwander, prepared with the assistance of the Danish Cultural Institute.

 Among the works included in the exhibition - portraits of famous representatives of the arts, as a film director Peter Greenaway, artist Jim Dine, Jeff Koons and Cindy Sherman; photographers Anne Leibovitz and Helmut Newton, Yoko Ono and Bjork.

"The main task of a photographer, creating portraits, is to persuade the viewer to see them. Suggest to him that this is an interesting exercise - looking at images of people, of which he, at best, heard something, but probably knows almost nothing.
 
Danish photographer Lars Schwander, "does not resort to the spectacular" glossy "staging .. It does not work to" break ", causing a strong backlash .. Schwander of Scandinavian low-key, unobtrusive and benevolent.

[He] uses a simple lighting without special effects, hates the flash, it prefers a neutral background for their characters, which are photographed only with the mutual human disposition. Schwander, Lars (Lars Schwander) [p. 1957] - Director of the Copenhagen Center of Photography, which he founded in 1996, the curator of many art exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art Louisiana, author of books and catalogs devoted to the art of photography. His works are in the collection of the National Library in Paris, the Museum of Photography in Charleroi, and Odense, the Royal Library in Copenhagen, the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, photo archive Lenono in New York and Olbricht Collection in Essen.
 
The exhibition "Portraits of Artists and Friends" is presented in the halls of St. Petersburg society, "AZ" (Nevsky 60) and will remain open until September 15.
