The archaeologists of the Moesgård Museum have gathered to investigate an interesting place of the age of Vikings situated to the north of Aarhus. Here the archaeologists have found a large group of so-called mine houses, separate wells and a prolonged settlement track. On the big territory of about 8 000 sq. m. the Museum has found approximately 15 mine houses and several wells. The mine houses are situated very close to each other on a low slope. On the investigated territory there is another wider allocated track of a separate house, that`s why the find is evaluated as a group of houses related to workshops. They could be situated a little higher. Mine houses are typical by its location for early iron age and the age of Vikings. There were huts half a meter underground and often with a ground floor. To hold a roof two strong digged in poles were usually used. Other mine houses investigations show us that ,as a rule, there were craftsmen unions, especially of textile, blacksmith`s work, wood work and tanning industry. You can see the mine house reconstruction in the Vikings Museum on St. Clement Square and among Vikings houses, behind a children`s playground, at the back side of the The Moesgård Museum.
