Horsens hosted the first Medieval Festival in the town centre in 1995. The intention was to widen the knowledge of an important period in the long history of the city and involve the community and other interested in the arrangement (1350-1536). Today, the Festival has turned into an international medieval festival with participants and artists attending from more than ten European countries. The Festival is officially hosted by Horsens Kommune (the Municipality of Horsens), but it is mainly promoted by the local community, including associations, schools, kindergartens, elderly associations, and educational centres. The European Medieval Festival shows all aspects of life of medieval society – art, handicrafts, music and everyday life. And you will meet people there, who dressed as noblemen, peasants, maidens, knights, fortunetellers, monks, workmen and handicraftsmen. IIn taverns and everywhere (Horsens turns these days to the one big market) you can eat dishes of medieval kitchen, and your thirst will be perfectly satisfied by honey, juice, beer and wine. There are many songs, music, theatrical shows and everything more, that can tell to you about the life in the European cities in the Middle Ages. Photo: Marina V.
