Danish archaeologists try to uncover the history of a strong fire, which in the middle of 13 th century devastated the monastery "Sortebrødrestræde" on Fyn island.Cause of the fire is still unknown and the assumption that it was arson in connection with the confrontation between the king of Denmark Eric IV (Erik IV Plow Grosh, 1216-1250) and Duke of Schleswig Abel could not be confirmed. Refuted another theory that the furnace, which archaeologists have found, was the cause of a fire .... but why then burned the house? Due to the July excavations archaeologists found the remains of burnt houses 13 century. It is possible that the remains of burnt houses, as well as Pompey, will give a clear picture of the High Middle Ages (1000-1300 A.D.) and archaeologists will be able to get closer to solving the mystery of fire. In 2012, the Odense City Museums are planning to open a new exhibition building, main entrance which will be located opposite the monastery. By materials of Historie-Online.dk |
