Christian music in Denmark's listened by not only small groups of religious-minded Danes. In recent years more and more musicians do not hide their religious beliefs, their music goes to the hit parades and festivals. This refers to the musical project "Kloster" and "Hymns from Nineveh" group."Religious music is not an indication that the Danes have become more religious. Perhaps this is an indication that the phenomenon of religion as a whole has again become interesting for society, "- said Marie Vejrup Nielsen, explores modern Christianity at the Centre of Modern Religions in Aarhus University. Marie Vejrup Nielsen does not believe that this shows even more popular Christian musicians and Christianity in general. However, in her opinion, it is undeniable that the subject of religion has become interesting again. Religious music project "Kloster" (vocals - Mikael R. Andreasen) released its album "The waves and the wind know his voice")in late 2010. Christian music now sounds for guests of the festival in Roskilde, where the group "Kloster" will play in 2011. Another religious group, which received great popularity in Denmark, is the group of "Hymns from Nineveh" with vocalist Jonas G. Petersen. "Hymns from Nineveh", which last month released their debut self-titled album, has already taken in the official Danish charts in his seventh place out of forty. But although religion was an interesting topic for the media and the Danes themselves, lead singer of "Hymns from Nineveh" does not believe that there is any chance of that faith in God will again be popular. "Faith in God and Divine Providence will never be in fashion because it is - irrational and rational at the time this is not feasible," - says Jonas H. Petersen. The musician believes that one way of overcoming the tension that currently exists between modernity and religion, is the art and, in particular, music. Vocalist of «Kloster» Michael R. Andreasen making music in an attempt to portray the divine. "The biggest characteristic of God in my head - he was a loving and creative. Therefore, I believe logical that if I am created in His image and likeness, then I too must be loving and creative. This desire to show a small part of the Divine. And its creative component I currently express in music "- he says. Marie Vejrup Nielsen believes that religion after September 11, 2001 is the main topic in Western Europe, where people have nterest and discuss religion. "Religion has once again interesting. And people are not interested in traditional, classical Christianity. They are interested in the phenomenon of religion - the question of how people can be religious, "- she says. This means that the heightened interest in religion may be a contributing factor to the success of religious musicians. Marie Vejrup Nielsen says that due to the fact of the existence of interest in religion religious musical groups may get more attention from the media. By materials of DR.dk |
