Major Exhibition "Jorn International" with the works of Danish artist Asger Jorn, he wrote in the period from 1953 to 1973, the number of visitors nearly overtaken Olafur Eliasson exhibition in 2004. The exhibition was held from January 22 to May 22 at the Aarhus Kunstmuseum ARoS (Aarhus, Denmark). As writes DR.dk citing stiften.dk, the total number of visitors "Jorn International" was 141,225 people. Olafur Eliasson exhibition visited by 142,000 people. Olafur Eliasson exhibition in 2004, lasted just over three months, while the exhibition of Asger Jorn was held for four months, from January 22 to May 22. Bjorn Bekgaard, communications director of the Museum of Aros said in an interview stiften.dk, that the advantage of Asger Jorn exhibition is that the novelty of the Museum of Aros no longer attracts people to the same extent as it was in 2004. Olafur Eliasson exhibition was held at a time when the museum was only opened so many came to the exhibition to look at both the museum itself. In third place is worth the attendance exhibition «Racing Cars», carried out Aros Museum in 2006 and gathered 137 000 visitors. By materials of DR.dk Photo: Marina Vorobyeva, 2011 About "Jorn International" Exhibition During his stay outside his home country Danish artist Asger Jorn (Asger Oluf Jørgensen, 1914-1973) created a series of beautiful and interesting works. It is these works became the basis for an exhibition held at the AROS Museum (Aarhus, Denmark) in the period from January 22 to May 22, 2011. The exhibition "Jorn International" focuses on the post-COBRA years (1953 to 1972) when Jorn got his international breakthrough. Jorn’s later works grew more expressive and abstract in their visual idiom. He would experiment with art media other than painting, including torn collages (décollage) and sculptures crafted in ceramics, bronze, and marble; such works are also featured among the 90 works in the exhibition. Jorn was possessed of an immense creative force and confidence. He is best described as a cosmopolitan individual with a tremendous amount of curiosity and desire to create something new and different within the arts. His restlessness brought him all around Europe, where he would come into contact with a near-countless number of people. To Jorn, travelling was never about the destination, but about the act of moving from place to place. He was always on the hunt for new inspiration, new partners for discussions and collaborations. When Jorn died in 1973 he was represented at 31 art museums in Europe and the USA. Today he is counted amongst the greatest painters ever to come out of Denmark. The many masterpieces by Jorn are on loan from the Guggenheim, New York; the Tate, London; the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin; the Henie Onstad Kunstcenter, Oslo and others. The exhibits include seven masterpieces that have never before been on display together in Denmark. Original text: The Official Site of ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum |
