The Red Bloc won the Danish Parliamentary election which took place on 15 September 2011.In the Folketing election, the Red Alliance took 89 seats in the 179-seat parliament (50,3% of the popular vote). 86 seats (49,7% of the vote) were taken by the governing Liberal-Conservative coalition (Venstre), leaders of which were prime ministers heading the Danish government during the period from 2001 to 2011 (Anders Fogh Rasmussen - 2001-2007, Lars Løkke Rasmussen - 2009-2011). The 2011 election results mean that Helle Thorning-Schmidt, the Leader of the Social Democrats, born in 1966, is going to be the first female Prime Minister in Denmark’s political history. The Danish Folketing is composed of 179 Members (175 of them are elected in Denmark, 2 Members are elected in the Faroe Islands and 2 in Greenland). The Members are elected for a term of four years. According to the 2011 election results, the Red Alliance is represented by four parties: Social democrats (Socialdemokraterne) (A) - 24,9% of the vote, 44 seats Social Liberal Party (Det Radikale Venstre) (B) – 9,5% of the vote, 17 seats Socialist People’s Party (Socialistisk Folkeparti) (F) – 9,2% of the vote, 16 seats Red-Green Alliance (Enhedslisten) (Ø) – 6,7% of the vote, 12 seats The Blue Alliance is represented by the following parties: Liberals (Venstre) (V) — 26,7% of the vote, 47 seats Danish People’s Party (Dansk Folkeparti) (O) — 12,3% of the vote, 22 seats Conservative People’s Party (Det Konservative Folkeparti) (C) — 4,9% of the vote, 8 seats Liberal Alliance (Liberal Alliance) (I) — 5% of the vote, 9 seats Christian Democrats (Kristendemokraterne) (К) - 0,8% of the vote, 0 seats The total 2011 voter turnout rate is 87,7%.
