This September “Art Copenhagen” exhibition took place in Copenhagen. The exhibition guests were lucky to see Andy Warhol himself. The exhibition was dedicated to the sculpture "Andy walking. Andy tired. Andy taking a little snooze...". It is made out of silicone and Andy Warhol looks so realistic, as if he was still alive. The sculpture depicts Warhol with his grey hair and with his common glasses on. But here he is already toothless and wrinkled. The sculpture was made by 23-year-old self-taught artist Edgar Askelovic. The young sculptor was born in Lithuania. Several years ago he moved to Great Britain where he has finished a fine art degree. It was a long and costly process to make a life-sized Warhol. Edgar Askelovic had to work day and night. He even had to sell his car to buy materials for the sculpture, which name comes from a line in the David Bowie song written in 1971. Kent Wolfsen from “Galerie Wolfsen” in Aalborg brought Andy Warhol with him to the Forum in Copenhagen. The sculpture of Warhol was first exhibited on 6 August, dedicated to the 83rd birthday of Andy Warhol. Kent Wolfsen learned of the sculpture one day before. It impressed him so much that he bought it right after he saw its picture on the Internet. Today Kent Wolfsen is the only owner of the sculpture. He displayed it at the exhibition to give people food for thought. “It is fantastic! I want to show it to as many people as possible”, he said in an interview with DR Kultur. Now Kent Wolsen wishes that one day the sculpture could go to Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh where he believes it belongs. Translated by Elena Kandaurova Original text, photo: DR.dk |
