The Fyrkat fortress is currently under construction, that will improve the approach to the fortress. This fortress of the Viking Age was opened for more than 50 years ago, and this is very popular place for visitors. In the late 1950s were found a lot of holes from the pillars remaining from houses in the fortress. They were marked by cement blocks, many of which are now broken and overturned. Archaeologists from the North Jutland Museum of History are going to remove these old blocks and after a small archaeological research to prepare new ones. The museum also intends to improve the road to the fortress - built new stairs with four gates. The next spring will be planted with new grass and cement blocks will also be painted on top. It is also planned to install new billboards, including signs on a small cemetery, where before it was found approx. 30 Vikings graves. All these works are possible thanks to donations from the Foundation, AP Møller and his wife Chastiny McKinney Møller. Upcoming work is part of the Agency for Cultural Heritage "Prehistory in the landscape." Project goal is giving to visitors more information and access to the ancient monuments of landscape history.
