The Archaeology Museum of Southern Jutland (Haderslev) was founded in 1887 as the Haderslev Amt Museum. The Museum is going to celebrate its 125-year-anniversary by a mobile tour of archaeological excavations of Southern Jutland. The Museum of Southern Jutland is going to celebrate its anniversary every Tuesday since January 3, 2012 till the first day of X-mas, telling about archaeological excavations and finds dated to the time of paleolith up to the 1800th. You can find more about the mobile tours of the archaeological stories on www.oldtidsglimt.dk. In the early summer of 1886 a farmer Nielsen and his son found two golden bowls hidden in the ground 10 kilometers to the west from Haderslev, near Ladegar. This news quickly reached an agricultural councellor Schreiber in Haderslev, who went to Ladegar and bought the bowls dated to late Bronze Age (1000-500 B.C.) A year later on September 21, 1887 the government decided to build a museum in Haderslev and appropriated necessary money. That is how this archaeological museum was founded. Thus, the Museum in Haderslev celebrates its 125th birthday in 2012 and this event must be celebrated properly. It is exactly what the Museum is going to do concentrating upon memories about the most significant archaeological excavations near Haderslev. Anyway, since 1958 the Museum sphere of influence has been widely increased and currently accounts about 10% of the total area of Denmark. Fifty two stories about Southern Jutland called “Glimt fra Oldtidsdage”will have been told by the end of the year. You can learn about spring and autumn series of lectures at the places of excavations in the whole territory of Southern Jutland through the web site and Smartphone applications.
